25 Baptists To Branson

I had to get up at 5:30 a.m. yesterday to take my parents to their church.  They were going on a four day trip with a church group, and apparently my dad felt their 15 year old mini-van parked in a church parking lot was too much temptation for car thieves.

Mom and dad were going to Branson.  When my daughter Amanda learned of their journey she said “ooh, Branson is for old people.”  News flash Amanda, your grandparents are 83.

25 Baptists to Branson sounds b-o-r-i-n-g.  Especially when the average age of the “Young At Heart” group is 75.  Still, if these people can ride 10 hours in a school bus to Branson, I say go for it.  I hope when I am 83 I have such an option.  Actually I hope that I make it to 83 to have such an option.

I don’t think this group will be excommunicated for having fun.  These are American Baptists, as opposed to the more conservative Southern Baptists.  Although the Shoji Show doesn’t sound like something I would want to see, eating at Bob Jones, or the Cracker Barrel, or Baldknobbers Country Restaurant sounds like fun.

I have heard of Jim Stafford and I don’t like spiders and snakes either.  Tickets to his show are 2 for $20, so even my miserly dad won’t mind.  I wonder if he sings Wildwood Weed.  And if anyone in his audience knows what he is talking about.

Last time my dad traveled anywhere, it was by plane to Florida.  He ended up in the hospital for a week with blood clots in his leg.  I hope bouncing through Missouri aboard a Baptist bus doesn’t do the same.

I do hope my parent have a good time.  This is a big weekend for them.  Branson for four days, and when they come back they are going to Creston, NE for a family reunion.  Seems when these reunions started that my dad was about my age now, and I was a young man.  Now, he is one of just a handful of the patriarchs.  Hell getting old.  Of course you get to stop in Branson along the way.

  1. Hope they had fun while they were here. Branson’s a great place for travelers of all ages – plenty of things to see and do, from shopping to lakes to shows it’s all here.
