Exxon, Mars, GM, Cell Phones, Warren Harding, George Bush, and John McCain
I am not sure which is more stunning, that my favorite company Exxon Mobil made a record second quarter profit of $11.68 billion dollars, or that its stock fell because investors expected a higher profit. Say what? There is obscene greed-look that up and you will find the logos of all the big oil companies. Then there is depraved greed, and that would have to be the investors who felt that a profit of $1,500 per every second of every minute of every hour of every day of April, May, and June simply wasn’t enough.
Here is another stunning question. Which is more surprising-the incredibly excessive profits of Exxon Mobil, or that water was found on Mars? Does this mean that Mars could have been the solar system’s Earth of millions of years ago? Was the ice found on Mars the remainder of a huge ice continent that disappeared because of global warming? Were there big oil companies on Mars? And, was there a Martian George Bush?
General Motors lost $15.5 billion dollars during the second quarter. It seems that people don’t want to buy pricey SUV’s anymore. That is hard to understand. Does this mean that gas price gouging by Exxon Mobil and its band of thieves has finally hit the yuppie pocketbook? Maybe.
Congress is proposing a ban on the use of cell phones on airplanes. Wouldn’t a better ban be on our highways and byways? I mean a real ban, like if a cop sees you talking on a cell phone while you are driving, he can stop you. He won’t write a ticket, he will confiscate your phone then drive over it with his patrol car. I also think this ban should be extended to using a cell phone in a restaurant. A chef would have legal authority to dump soup in the lap of a ne’er do well caught with a phone to his ear. Use of cell phones at sporting events should also be banned, with a penalty of having to watch the X games every waking hour for a week.
Do you feel you are better off than your were eight years ago? If you do, did you already have a few million dollars in assets? Or are you like me, and figure the past four years each have added one more year I have to work, if I can retire at all.
Historians have said that James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Warren Harding, or Herbert Hoover was our worst President ever. Some include Richard Nixon, and while I am no Nixon fan, I would go quite that far. Is George Bush closing in on these august gentlemen? I would say he may have already passed them.
When I did a Google search on “worst us president,” the first site shown was the John McCain for President site. I am not making that up. It does seem a little premature though.
