Gay Marriage In Iowa, My God Is Benevolent, Guns, Obama, Plus Other Rants

My daughter has kept me apprised of the internet reaction to gay marriage in Iowa, shootings in Binghampton and Pittsburgh, and Obama’s visit to Europe.  Even after I told her I did not want to hear more she made sure I didn’t miss out on anything.  Thank you Amanda.

Gay marriage in Iowa?  That sounds like a great name for a rock band.  Naturally there is an incredible outpouring of negativity surrounding anything people don’t understand.  If it wasn’t so sad, I would almost be amused by the ranting of religious right-wing nuts.  Apparently their God is a God of vengeance.  The God I strongly believe in is one of forgiveness.  Actually I even I have a mental picture of the God I believe in.  He looks exactly like my grandfather; he is not sitting on a throne, rather a rocking chair, and occasionally he smokes a pipe.  He always has a benevolent air about him.

Shootings?  I love the bumper stickers that say guns don’t kill people, people kill people.  Of course these bumper stickers always seem to be on beat up pickups with tires taller than my car, spotlights adorning the cab roof, and a few cases of empty beer cans rolling around the truck bed.  Idiots.  People with guns kill people.  We react scornfully to bombings in the Islamic world-and we should, but how many weeks go by without a lead in story on national TV covering a shooting with 5-8-10-13 people shot dead? No need for gun control here?

Obama-One of the ads showing up on my email site wanted me to express my opinion on whether or not I was sorry I voted for Obama.  Say what?  The man has been in office for a little over 100 days.  Sure he is trying to tackle too many issues.  Unfortunately all of them need tackling and none of them can wait.  Bush didn’t screw up our economy and piss off all our allies in his first 100 days.  Let Obama do the job he was elected to do.

I love the Republican politicians trying to do what is best for the country, ‘er playing politics as usual.  The ideas they are presenting are the same ideas that helped us reach the predicament we are now in.  So, we need more of this?  I don’t think so.

I haven’t ranted in a long time.  Feels good.  One more protest.  Last night Nebraska had thunderstorms and less than one hundred miles from Fremont tornado warnings were issued.  Today we are supposed to receive snow.  I hope they are wrong.  Right now we have just enough snow to cover the ground.  This weather is insane.  Almost as crazy as the North Koreans firing a long range missile or a woman in California convicted for causing a fatal traffic accident because she was texting while driving.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Ron, You must be my long lost brother. I couldn’t agree with you more. Keep up the good blogs.

  2. 2.3 +3 doesnt really equal 5 Ron….

  3. GM-I looked and looked and couldn’t find where I said that. When I first read your comment I cussed the grammar and spell check for not catching my typo-which it isn’t made to do anyway, but reading this again I don’t see anything that says 2.3 + 3. I really hope I didn’t do that because I make my living with numbers, this is just my therapy.
